Have you ever read the personal ads and noticed the similarities or dissimilarities in them? Ads written by men looking for women often place priority on stereotypically feminine physical qualities, using words such as attractive, slender, petite and sexy (Wood 2012). Where Women’s ads for male partners frequently emphasize status and success and include words such as secure, ambitious, professional, and successful Wood 2012). I came across a web site Good Dating Profile Examples, I found the ads very interesting; I am self-sufficient, independent, honest (DateSeeker 2012) and I’m smart, beautiful and sensitive (DateSeeker 2012), both of these adds where written by women looking for men. While this one was written by a man looking for a women; She appears to be between 26 and 40 years old, but may appear younger than her age. She at least 5’7″ (I am 6′), not a bbw, but doesn’t live at the gym either. She has high-maintenance looks with a down-to-earth attitude, values, and personality DateSeeker 2012). I was a little shocked just how similar all three where to the stereotypes mentioned in our text. This website was giving example the type of profiles that get attention and have more people responding to it. I guess what this teaches us is that you will get more dates if you portray yourself in a shallow manner. Don’t be your self and actually put your true information on the sire because you will not have as many opportunities. If I was to start dating, I would put all of my flaws out there so at least I would get people that are interested in me for me and not what I want you to believe is me.
